RCPI 2023 Elections: President Designate and 4 Ordinary Councillors
Nominations open on 8 March 2023
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) will be holding two important elections in 2023. These will be for the election of:
- President Designate of RCPI, taking up the role of President on 18 October 2023
- 4 Fellows (3 seats for Medicine and 1 for Occupational Medicine) to RCPI Council.
Nominations for these positions will open on 8 March 2023.
Elections timeline
Both the elections for the President Designate and Councillors will run under the same timelines as follows:
- 8 March 2023: Call for applications for the role of Ordinary Councillors and President Designate
- 28 April 2023: Deadline for applying for the roles
- 17 May 2023: Ballot opens - All Fellows of the College in good standing can vote
- 5 July 2023: Ballot closes
Eligibility criteria
President-Designate/President
A Fellow (FRCPI) is eligible to hold the Office of President-Designate/President if he/she is:
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI) for at least 5 years;
• In good standing
• Is not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee;
• Is ordinarily resident in Ireland; and
• Is either a current or previous member of Council (within the last 10 years)
Councillor
In order to run for election as a Councillor, candidates must be a:
• Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI) and
• In good standing
• Is not prohibited by law from being a charity trustee
